Lik koji nam je crtanje meda i zeka prikazao na sasvim drugačiji način od svega što ste dosada videli, sve je podigao na jedan VIŠI nivo.Ta medena, ljubka, slatka bića on slika kroz mračne, krvave slike života, prikazujući sve njegove poroke. Njegove slike su fascinantne, čudne, nesvakidašnje, "duboke", poučne... Ovo je prvi put da smo poželeli da posedujemo neke slike, nadamo se da ćete se složiti sa nama ...
Sasvim
slučajno sam naleteo na jednu od njegovih slika. Tražeći slike za blog
ukucao sam "happiness" i google mi je izbacio njegovu sliku "my
happiness is riding on your misery", ta slika mi je odmah zapala za
oko. Sledio sam link do njegovog oficialnog sajta www.lukechueh.com
i oduševio se njegovim ostalim slikama. Razgledajući njegove radove 85%
sam poželeo da imam okačene negde u svojoj sobi! Podelio sam moje
"otkriće" sa Kaćom a ona svoje oduševljenje samnom.

Pošto nas je zanimalo šta stoji iza tako mračnih slika, tako slatkih likova, prečešljali smo njegov sajt, intervijue i net, i evo šta smo saznali...
~~ BIOGRAFIJA:
Luke Chueh je rodjen u Filadelfiji 7.marta 1973. godine, mada je odrastao u Frenšu, u Centralnoj Kaliforniji. Lukeovo likovno obrazovanje počelo je i završilo se u Kaliforniji na Kalifornijskom univerzitetu. Tokom tog perioda, takodje je radio za manifakturnu kompaniju gitara Ernie Ball kao dizajner i ilustrator. Njegovi radovi iz tog perioda osvojili su nekoliko nagrada i bio je svrstan u anale za dizajn.
Diplomirao je 1997. godine i već 2003. godine, preselio se u Los Andjeles da bi nastavio i razvio svoju dizajnersku karijeru. Pa ipak, šanse za zaposlenje držale su ga stalno zauzetim. Počeo je kada je Los Andjeles prikazao underground art predstavu-Canibal Flower, i pozvao ga da i on pokaže svoje radove tokom meseci ovih prikazivanja. Od tad, počeo je značajnije da se probija na umetničkoj sceni Los Andjelesa, predstavljajući sebe kao nekog ko ne sme biti ignorisan.
Koristeći minimalne šeme boja, jednostavne životinjske likove, i beskrajnu listu čudnih situacija, Luk stilski balansira između okrutnog i slatkog, hodajući po ivici između komedije i tragedije. Kada su ga pitali ko je na njega imao uticaj, rekao je da su to njegovi savremenici koristeći snažne ilustrativne elemente. Spomenuo je Chiho Aoshima, Marcel Dzama, Jeremy Fish, Camille Rose Garcia... U svom stvaranju on pored boja koristi i mastilo, što je postalo njegova karakteristika. Takođe postoje i igračke koje su pravljene po likovima sa njegovih slika, koje se izuzetno dobro prodaju.

Gde nalaziš inspiraciju za svoj rad?
"Inspiraciju uglavnom vadim iz nekih svakodnevnih situacija, mada me takođe inspirišu dela savremenih slikara, mojih kolega. Nekada mi inspiracija dođe i iz stripova koje sam čitao kao malii uz njih odrastao.''
Koju svoju sliku najviše voliš?
"Od svojih slika ističem "Alhemičara", to je slika sa kojom sam takodje najviše povezan. To je zbog toga što pretvaranje gvožđa u zlato poistovećujem sa tim što sve loše utiske koje dobijam, kanališem i pretvaram u slike ili druge radove.''
"Alhemičar":
Zašto nema veselih boja na tvojim slikama? Retko koristiš ljubičastu, zelenu...
"Ja sam kreirao svoj, kako ga nazivam, "Colour wheel of Doom" ("Točak boja propasti"). U mom točku boja, svaka boja predstavlja određeno respoloženje ili radnju. Plava predstavlja depresiju, tugu i gubitak, zelena oličenje zaraze i kugu, crvena nasilje, bes i krvoproliće, a narandžasta predstavlja ludilo. Žuta i ljubičasta su "wild" boje (boje bez određene emocije i teme) i njih koristim u bilo kom scenariju ako odlučim da odgovaraju. Ipak, meni je ljubičasta teška i nezahvalna boja za rad. Predpostavljam da jednostavno nemam mnogo ljubičastih ideja."

"Moje slike definitivno imaju narativni kvalitet, ali nisam siguran da mogu reći da postoji poruka ili pouka iza mojih slika, osim možda "life sucks,oh well..." ili "i've got issues"."
"Korišćenje životinja kao metafora je oruđe u komunikaciji koje su koristila mnoga društva, tokom istorije. Ne moram da kažem da moji životinjski likovi imaju funkciju metafora. Većim delom vremena ih smatram metaforama za sebe."
"Prvobitno sam se opredelio za životinje jer su mi bile lakše za slikanje. Ja sam poprilično samouk slikar, moje veštine i sposobnosti su ograničene. Onda sam shvatio da ako zamenim svoje životinjske likove sa nekim azijatom u 30tim poput mene, ili nekim gangsta crncem, ja bih istog momenta podelio ili udaljio svoju publiku. Bez obzira koliko širokoumni mislili da smo, kao ljudska bića, svi posedujemo određene nivoe predrasuda bilo da smo toga svesni ili ne. Koristeći životinje kao likove, verujem da moja izražavanja imaju univerzalniji izgled, zaobilazeći teme i pitanja agizma, rasizma, seksizma.Razlozi zašto koristim "cute"("slatke") životinje su, zato što se mi lako povezujemo sa njima, jer je većina nas odrasla uz takve životinje kao što su plišani meda i druge plišane igračke, životinjice koje su nas tešile i štitile. U svojim slikama ja koristim tu njihovu ljubkost da ilustrujem nevinost, i kada se nadovežu mračne scene koje ja kreiram, gubitak nevinosti. Bol tog iskustva je redovna tema... tema, za koju mislim da se svi ljudi mogu dovesti u vezu sa njom, na jedan ili drugi način."

"Izuzetno mi laska kada neko istetovira neku od mojih slika. Ako je umetnost jednostavna forma komunikacije izmedju umetnika i publike onda to valjda znači da sam uspeo. Kreirati nešto za šta se ljudi tako jako vežu, nešto u čemu se pronađu, da su voljni da to imaju utisnuto na koži zauvek, stvarno podržava moju odluku da nastavim karujeru umetnika."
(hmm, digresija...u svakom slučaju, barem mi, više bismo želeli da istetoviramo nešto ovako interesantno nego nešto klasično što danas svi imaju ... zar ne?)

"Da, sa tim imam velikih problema, smatram da je to vid narušavanjamog integriteta. Ali to ne znači da nisam zainteresovan za pravljenje radova koji bi bili ištampani na majcama, čak smatram da je to vrlo zanimljivo, ali ne i korišćenje već postojećih u te svrhe.''
Da li takodje radite i slike za albume?
"Da, radim slike za albume, ali samo ako se to odnosi na muziku koja se meni sviđa... Ne radim za izvodjače sa čijom muzikom nisam povezan. Kada dobijem ponudu, moram prvo izdvojiti vreme i preslušati muziku sa albuma, da bih je najbolje izrazio i slikom.''
Da li radite slike po želji?
"Ne, uglavnom ne crtam slike po želji, upravo zato što se moje viđenje stvari uglavnom vrlo razlikuje od viđenja drugih ljudi. Ne mogu da ispunjavam tuđe ideje i želje. Ali mogu recimo, kada neko dođe, ja ga pitam koju moju sliku najviše voli, on mi kaže i ja se onda tako orjentišen i naslikam nešto slično za tu osobu.''
